Midterm: Motions and Public Secrets

The two works of electronic literature, Motions and Public Secrets, correspond with each other in the fact that they both focus on women's rights and how they are still being treated in the U.S. Years ago, women did not have very many rights in the U.S. Years have gone by, and now they have the right to vote, speech, protest, and every single right that a man has. Because women now have these rights, no one pays attention to the things that still go on behind closed doors, such as the abuse of incarcerated women in prisons in Central California, and the ongoing existence of human trafficking. Many do not believe that these things still happen, but that is because they are being hidden from public knowledge. Instead of highlighting the existence of tragic situations such as these, our media focuses their attention on things such as the Women’s March on Washington which took place on January 21, 2017. This march was conducted to support the rights of abortion and conditions of the LGBT. While we are focusing on this, women in other countries are slaves to their husbands, some not even able to show their faces. I am in now way saying that right of being able to have an abortion, or the rights of the LGBT shouldn't be addressed, but we should be focusing on the real-world things that are still happening in our country. Women are being abused, sold for sex, and used as slaves, but we are highlighting things such as if society with accept a woman changing her body to become a man? This is something that does not make sense to me. Stories are finally getting out about the real-world problems we are facing, Motions and Public Secrets are perfect examples of horrible, tragic things that are still going on in our country which get overlooked by the media.
